That Man Had A Really Weird Sunhat On

of daylight
seep through
cracks of concrete

and dandelions
peek through
remains of
shipwrecked poles,

stretching their arms
as Mrs. Wind carries
the tufted kids off
to graduation school.

The summer heat;
unrelenting, teases
exposed necklines

with slobbery kisses

that run down
stretched clavicles
and burnt skin,

trickling right into
outstretched hands
warm lemonade.

  1. Hi there!

I’m loving this poem! It’s creative, beautiful, and memorable! I’m currently looking for writers to add to my Journal’s magazine, The Wire’s Dream. I’m interested in featuring you and your poetry with my readers, and I would like to know if that’s something you would consider.

All submitters are featured with an interview alongside their work; and all become part of the magazine’s collection. I consider all submitters as part of the Journal’s family and I will always treat them with respect and value. If you’re concerned about copyrights, know that my intention isn’t malicious. All submitters retain their copyrights. I aim to share what I see as good work with other readers in hopes that they’re inspired too.

Please let me know either way, yes or no, if this is something you’ll agree to do! And please take a look at the Journal for more info:

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me or leave a comment! I’ll get back to you asap.

      1. Yay! Thank you for stopping by and for taking a look! I’m open for any style and/or creative endeavors you would like to approach your poetry with. I’m aiming for 2 poems; you’re more than welcome to submit a few more either now or in the future. What I would need from you are both poems in a single document along with a mini bio (and bio picture or avatar) attached. If you can give me a few days, I’ll send you a few questions for a mini interview that’ll accompany your poems. You can send everything to this email: theblacklionjournal [at] If you have questions, feel free to email me there or send me a comment!

Thank you! I look forward to featuring you!

  2. Thank you! You’re also welcome to send over pieces that you’ve published here, if there’s something you particularly want to feature. Let me know if you have any questions or time difficulties — I’m truly understanding of busy schedules. 🙂 Talk to you soon!

    1. It’s good to hear that this poem has warmed your bones, metaphorically speaking. It’s been raining recently here too… A good, steaming cup of tea would be nice!
