Blog post – NaPoWriMo 2017

Commitment scares me. The last time I truly committed myself to something was the 30 Day Haiku Challenge I did last year. The results were pretty good – I managed to do it, although I lapsed towards the end. But I did reach the finishing line.

And yet – here I am,  for this month’s National Poetry Writing Month. Can I do it? Who knows? Maybe if you guys join in, we can get through this together…

  1. I have never heard of this until now… and am up for the challenge… so I will unofficially join the challenge by joining you! I have two write two poems today to make up for yesterday, but consider me your poem partner for the next 30 days.

As for writing every day, the key is don’t fret over whether the poem is “good” or not. The challenge is 30 days (time), not 30 brilliant poems(quality). Anyone can write a poem, so just write and then after 30 days, get rid of the stuff you don;t like, and keep the rest to rewrite/expand on.

I am with you on this.

    1. I admire your courage, Daniel – let’s do this together, in that case! There are writing prompts to help those stuck with the challenge – I’ll leave the link here later for you to check it out.

That’s the thing – part of me is worried I won’t get the poems right, so here’s the chance for me to kick perfectionism in the ass for a month, to say it’s okay!
